Tim played hockey whilst at school, but only returned to the sport in 2010. In his final year at the College Tim was part of the senior hockey side that won the Southern Independent Schools’ title, the State Independent Schools’ title and the Southern Tasmanian Schoolboys’ title.
From the 1977 Annual
BACK ROW: James Gard. Tim McDevitt, Michael Traynor, Tim Respondek, Michael Denniss, James Connolly, Matthew Banks and Br Brian Derrick
FRONTROW: Scott McKay, Paul McCartney, Martin Shirley (VC), Stephen Pratt (C ), Mark Fitzpatrick, Robert Chandler and Andrew Foong.
Br Brian Derrick did the report on the team for the Annual. His summary of the Tim McDevitt’s contribution is noteworthy:
If versatility implies variety in positional play, Tim is a versatile player – left and right halves, left wing and left inner all benefitted from his playing there. His handstops on short corners were excellent and well co-ordinated with Matt Banks’ swing (they had to be). Took ‘some’ skin off a finger during the season and had a nice’ conversation with the doctor at the R.H.H. as he sewed it all back on. (SVC students were commonplace at Cas. during the hockey season!
