A New Challenge for John Kelly

Much deserved accolades have been flowing for John Kelly who has decided to sell the State Cinema in North Hobart.  His development of the cinema, bookshop and restaurant complex over the past 18 years  has made a significant contribution to the Hobart community.  State Cinema owner John Kelly will step down as operator and Director of the successful North Hobart movie complex after 18 years. He will leave the complex on December 3.  Only days before this announcement, it was reported that he had purchased the Cresent Hotel at the corner of Burnett St and Murray St in North Hobart. The Cresent had been run as a pub for 160 years, and was previously known as the Lime Kiln Inn. It was renamed to the Crescent in the late 1890s. After refurbishments, it is hoped that the business will be up and running by February 2020.
